Happy Halloween from the Hillcrest Teaching Staff!
Third grade students were able to experience the CMU STEM Lab this week! How cool! Building, designing, problem solving, and having fun!
November is Homeless Awareness Month and we’re excited to be partnering with United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties to raise money for The Hope House through a coin war challenge called “Coins for a Cause”! Start saving and collecting your coins to send with your student! The classroom that raises the most amount of money will win a PIZZA PARTY! 🍕
Based on the current forecast for 2 p.m., we are planning an OUTDOOR parade beginning at 2 p.m.! We know the forecast may still change before then, but this is when we are making our decision.
If parents want to sign out their students after the parade, we ask that they go to the pick-up area locations for each grade and if they ride they ride the bus, we will have parents wait outside as it is very hectic at the end of the day while they wait for their child.
We will also do a Facebook Live video as well!
Please see the parade route below.
Hillcrest Halloween Information for tomorrow.
We will have a costume parade at 2 p.m. and will announce at 10 a.m. whether it will be outdoor or indoor.

This week, 2nd-grade classes were able to attend a field trip at Agro Liquid to learn a variety of topics about agriculture! We are very lucky to have such great learning experiences for our students!
We are so excited to have our first water bottle filling station at Hillcrest! This is a grant funded project and we will have more throughout the building soon!
Our First graders were able to go on a field trip to Anderson and Girls Farms and Orchards this week! What a great learning experience for them!
Third graders have been learning about the US Congress and the government in Shared Reading. We love to see the engagement in their learning!
An activity that has dropped in popularity over the years is jump rope. It was so neat to watch these 2nd graders working together to figure it out! Learning to work together and encourage each other on the playground is one of the best learning opportunities we can provide!
On Monday, October 28th, the Cross Country program will host a Festival of Races for our elementary kids! This race is 1 mile in length and is free of charge. We would love to have any and all elementary kids who have an interest in running or who would like to learn more about Cross Country join us! At 5:00 our varsity athletes will lead the elementary athletes through an optional short warm-up and a series of stretches. The first race will start at 5:30. How many races we have will depend on how many people register. We would like to have a race for each grade! The starting line will be right behind the bleachers of the Track and Field Stadium. The course will be marked, and middle school and HS athletes will be helping. Please let me know if you have any questions by posting them in the comments. Thank you!

During our Differentiated Instruction (DI) block, students work in small groups and focus on reading skills they need and also are able to work on their workbook response from their Shared Reading time.
Over the last few weeks, we have been collecting items for hurricane relief in the south. Phoenix Leonard, a 2nd grader, and her family took the items down to North Carolina this past weekend and delivered all of the items. A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated!
Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the beautiful weather! We had an AMAZING learning week!
Check out our updates!
